When Halloween Mischief Goes Too Far: Graffiti Removal

graffiti removal

There are a few ways to remove graffiti. The right one depends on the surface that was tagged.

Halloween is right around the corner, and unfortunately, sometimes a night of family fun can turn into a night of mischief and property damage. If your home or business is the recipient of vandalism in the form of graffiti you’re going to need some professional help removing it. There are a few ways graffiti is dealt with, but the method used depends on the surface that was vandalized.

Cover It

In some cases, graffiti can simply be painted over, but this requires a paintable surface and either a paint that can be easily matched or a new color. Painting over graffiti is just like painting over any other color. Sometimes a layer of primer may need to go up to make sure the graffiti doesn’t show through the new paint, and even then multiple coats may be necessary.

There are a few different methods for removing graffiti including chemical stripping, power washing, and abrasive removal. The method employed depends on the surface. For most buildings chemical stripping and/or power washing can be used with a relatively low risk of damaging the surface. In some particular cases, such as historic monuments or national landmarks, painting and chemicals aren’t an option. Most of the time power washing can remove the graffiti without damaging the surfaces.
