Do You Know How To Avoid Water Damage In Your Home?

Learn how to prevent water damage in your home.

As a homeowner, you should make sure your home is in perfect shape throughout the year.  Water damage can weaken your home and cause serious structural damage that can leave you with costly repairs.  The last thing you want is for mold to grow causing you and your family to vacate your property.  Luckily, there are a few simple tips you can follow so that you can prevent water damage from occurring in your home.

Start With Your Gutters

One of the most effective ways to prevent water damage in your home is to inspect and clean your gutters regularly.  You want to clear out any leaves and debris that could clog your gutters. The last thing you want is for your gutters to overflow with water eventually damaging the siding and foundation of your home.  Make sure that the downspouts connected to your gutters are directing water at least five to ten feet away from your home.

Check and Fix Leaks

When it comes to avoiding water damage, you want to check around your home for potential leaks.  Leaks can happen without you knowing until it is too late, so make sure you are inspecting your pipes regularly throughout the year.  You want to check for dark stains on the pipes under your sinks and any stains on ceilings. Make sure that you fix a leak as quickly as possible so that you can avoid mold.

Invest In Water Detection

If you want to avoid serious water damage, it is best that you install a water detection device in your home.  The device will sound an alarm when it comes in contact with moisture, so it can detect slow leaks that would have otherwise gone unnoticed.  Make sure to install the device near a sump pump, water heater, washing machine, or any other large appliance.
