3 Winter Carpet Cleaning Tips

Learn how to clean your carpet properly during the winter.

We are in the middle of the winter which can bring snowy and icy weather conditions on to your property.  When you enter your home, you have to be careful to not track in snow, ice, or dirt on to your carpet causing potential damage.  The last thing you want is to spend time and energy cleaning your carpet during the winter.  In the case you do bring moisture into your home and on your to your carpet, there are few simple carpet cleaning tips you should try this winter.

Invest In A Doormat

Even though this is not a carpet cleaning tip, having a doormat for your home will prevent you from having to remove and snow or dirt stain from your carpet.  When you are any guest enter your residence, make sure all shoes are taken off at the doormat.  You do not want anyone to track in any dirt or slush from their shoes onto your clean carpet.  You should have a designated in your home away from you carpet where shoes can dry.

Slush Stains

If you happen to get slush or a combination of dirt and snow on your carpet, there is a simple way to remove it.  If the slush is frozen, remove any excess parts from your carpet immediately.  You should then wet a clean cloth with a solution of hot water and soap and apply it to the stain, working from the outside to the center until you remove it.  Rinse your carpet with a small amount of cold water and then dry the area with a clean cloth.  Once the carpet is dry, vacuum the area to remove any excess dirt.

Spot Treatment

Most fresh spots stain can be removed by using a mixture of warm water and white vinegar.  Once the solution is applied to the spot, blot the area with a dry cloth and avoid rubbing it into the carpet any further.  You can use a soft brush to remove any spots as well.  Once you remove the stain, make sure to vacuum the area to remove any remaining debris.
