As a property owner, whether it be your home or business, there are so many things you’re responsible for. However, cleaning should be on the top of your list. But we’re talking about more than just cleaning the floors. There are many things you can do to keep your home and business clean, safe, and stress-free so you don’t have to deal with a disaster. ServiceMaster of Baltimore wants to remind you of 3 items you may be forgetting to clean. These areas can easily be added to your spring cleaning list, too!
Kitchen Appliances
With all the cooking that gets done, the kitchen is definitely one of the most-used areas of the home. That’s why it’s important to give everything a good scrub once in a while.
You’ll likely need to pay most attention to your stove and oven. The frequent use of this appliance creates a build up of grease and burnt foods. These can be hard to clean when left for too long, but most ovens come with a self-cleaning feature to make it easier. If yours doesn’t have this feature, you can make a solution at home to do so. After scraping the leftover food away, make a paste with baking soda and water to spread all over the oven. You’ll want to let this mixture sit in the oven for a few hours before wiping it clean.
Don’t forget about your small appliances, too! This includes microwaves, coffee makers, and toaster ovens, among others. These types of appliances get used frequently at the office, so it’s important to keep them clean.
Cabinet Hardware
While you’re in the kitchen cleaning appliances, it’s a good idea to take a look at your cabinets and their hardware. Because these are high-touch areas, they should be regularly cleaned and disinfected. This is especially important in office buildings to prevent the spread of germs and diseases.
Washer and Dryer
Even though your washing machine is constantly filled with soap and water, it still needs to be cleaned once in a while. You’ll know it’s time when your laundry starts to smell musty or if you notice a smell around the rim of the machine. It’s common for this part of your washer to breed mildew. This can be an issue for anyone with respiratory issues. No matter whether you have a top- or front-loading machine, vinegar and baking soda can be used to clean the musty smell and mildew.
The dryer vent is another important item you might be forgetting to clean. This machine produces a lot of lint and most gets caught in the lint trap or funneled out of the house via the dryer vent. But many lint particles can get stuck in the vent and even eventually harden. Aside from making your dryer less efficient, it becomes a serious fire hazard. If your clothes are taking longer to dry, it may be a sign you need to clean the vent. You can do this yourself by reading the manufacturer’s instructions, which will tell you how to take the back of the dryer apart and vacuum any lint that’s collected there. Or you can call a professional dryer vent cleaning service.
